Kathy Cortes introduced this year’s Women’s Scholarship winner, who shared her bio with us. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, we played a Famous Women’s Trivia Activity based on the game “Two Truths and a Lie”. A screen was shared with information on the winners of our High School School Awards. Thanks to Terri Hicks for Chairing this program. A short business meeting followed.
Our speaker was Barbara McMorrow, the former mayor of Freehold Township. She discussed “The Role of Women in Politics (non-partisan)”. A short business meeting followed.

SEPTEMBER 13, 2018 Branch Meeting 7:30 PM Program: Awarding of the Lew Williams and Leila Sulkes Scholarships; Presentation by Emma Dangler, the student our Branch sponsored to attend the AAUW National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) (May 29 – June 1, 2019 at May 29–JUNE 1, 2019 at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Emma received as Associates in Science from Brookdale Community College. She will be attending Stockton University in the spring of 2019 as a junior, environmental science major. Her ultimate goal is to work for the EPA in wildlife and forest conservation.

September 8, 2016 – Awarding of the Lew Williams and Leila Sulkes Scholarships. Kelsey Frenkiel, Maizie’s granddaughter, addressed the group on her experience with the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (more commonly known as NCCWSL), and how this experience impacted her life. Our members tested their knowledge of culture, literature, history, science, as we played a game called: “Significant & Silly Facts”.
October 13, 2016 – ”Health Issues for Women” by medical professionals from CentraState Medical Center – Heart Disease and Stress Management. Tricia Marceante, RN, MSN, APN-BC, nurse practitioner, presented a power point presentation on the prevalence of cardiac disease in women, with special attention to risk factors and prevention. Shelley Botwinick, MA, gave a power point presentation on stress management. Various modalities to prevent and cope with stress were discussed and demonstrated, including sound healing and Donna Eden Energy. See our Tools page for her presentation, and a Stress Quiz.
November 17, 2016 (Note: Date Change due to availability of school) – “Oldies But Goodies”: Relive the beginning of the turbulent 1960’s, a time of massive social upheaval, often reflected in its music. The discussion will include America’s emphasis on its youth through the music of The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, (who just today awarded a Noble Prize in Literature), James Brown and others. Included in this exciting and informative presentation by Dr. Stephen F. Marcone will be audio and video examples of the performers. Dr. Marcone has been on the faculty of the School of Music at Syracuse University as well as the William Patterson University of New Jersey, where he was chairperson of the Music Department for 15 years, and Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Communication for two. Author of “Managing Your Band” he is a sought out speaker for the NJ Council on the Humanities.

March 9, 2017 – Dr. Stacy Gallin, medical ethicist and founder of the Maimonides Institute for Medical Ethics and the Holocaust. will present on the topic of “medical ethics”. Starting with the Nazi era and continuing to present times, the talk will include a range of current subjects, including end of life issues. A “question and answer” session will follow the presentation.

Dr. Aaron is a board certified internist and gastroenterologist who has practiced in Monmouth and Ocean Counties for over 36 years. He now instructs young doctors in the art of colonoscopy and endoscopy at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center.
