The speaker at our November 14th meeting was Bernadette Rogoff, Director of Collections at the Monmouth County Historical Association. Bernadette took us back in time to glimpse “Julia’s Wardrobe” (We were first introduced to Julia Norton Hartshorne during our May “Trips & Treks” visit to the Historic Portland Place in Rumson, the estate originally owned by Hartshorne family.)

Bernadette Rogoff has worked for the Monmouth County Historical Association since 1992. She has researched, designed, and produced more than 45 changing exhibitions exploring all facets of Monmouth County’s rich history.  As an 18th and 19th century textile and historic clothing expert, Bernadette was the perfect guide into the life of the wealthy, well-connected Julia through the photos and descriptions of the wardrobe Julia acquired during the mid-1800s. We were able to explore Julia’s sense of style and her personality through these fashions and Bernadette’s wonderful stories.
